The Certificate Program is a distance learning program as well as an onsite training program. The distance learning portion of the program is delivered via two primary learning technologies: Apple’s new iPad and an online course website delivered via the Sakai Collaboration and Learning Environment.
iPad
The Apple iPad delivers video lectures and allow students to access, if they so choose, the course website via the web. Students will use the iPad to access the Center’s own video lectures as well as course readings and other educational materials including an online video library containing hundreds of bioethics videos, readings from The American Journal of Bioethics and more.
Students can work on their courses from virtually anywhere there is an Internet connection. The world is their classroom. Students can share with their classmates bioethics news articles via Twitter and Facebook straight from their iPad!
Sakai
Sakai will be the place where students engage in online class discussion, post homework assignments, receive grades, and have online forums for a wide range of other activities throughout the online portions of the program.
Every student also will receive an email address to log in to the Center’s bioethics video library, its podcast section, to gain access to a medical library, and more.
But the learning doesn’t stop after the Certificate Program ends….
Alumni of the program will have access to new video lectures from the Center for Practical Bioethics’ Bioethics Channel and PracticalBioethics.tv as well as AJOB thanks to their iPad and the programs other learning technologies. Once a student, always a student of the Center for Practical Bioethics — all made possible courtesy of AJOB, Apple, and the Center’s innovative technologies.
