The Onsite Practicum takes place in Kansas City, Missouri over the course of 9 days. The practicum is designed for students to put to use the concepts, methods, and skills they have learned in their online courses in real-time while they are in Kansas City as well as learn new skills of interviewing, how to conduct a family meeting, chart review, mediation, and more. Students while in Kansas City will practice their skills of ethics consultation working with standardized patients.
The Certificate Program’s onsite curriculum also is tailored around the ASBH Core Competencies for Health Care Ethics Consultation and the JCAHO Standards. Each activity is linked to one of these competencies or standards so that students can clearly identify how these activities relate to the most current and up-to-date metrics for ethics in health care institutions in the United States.

KUMC
In addition, the members of the Kansas City Regional Hospital Ethics Committee Consortium, organized by the Center for Practical Bioethics, will provide the clinical sites for the Practicum as well as additional classroom resources, library access during the Practicum, as well as other clinical rotations, simulations, and practical experience.
At the conclusion of the 9-day practicum, and upon successful completion of both the online courses and the practicum itself, each student will be given a certificate of completion for the Certificate Program.
